Katie Hamby is an experienced elementary teacher, performer, and musician. Katie currently works as a fifth grade teacher in the Blue Valley School District in Overland Park, Kansas but has taught various other age groups in both Columbia and Belton, Missouri. Katie also holds an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teaching license so she can serve an even greater population of diverse students. After school Katie leads a Leadership Team of fifth graders in hopes to develop leadership skills through team building activities and serving in the community. Katie has been playing flute, piano, singing, and been involved in theater for over 15 years. With a musical background, Katie loves to bring these elements into the classroom to enhance learning and student engagement. As a leader of youth group, worship band, and many church camps growing up and into adulthood, Katie is excited to help even more students engage and grow both academically and emotionally!
Jimmy has enjoyed creating music since he was 8 years old, when he wrote his first song, "Ridin' Motorcycles!" From there his love of music grew and grew, and he received a Bachelor's of Music in Education degree from the Wheaton College (IL) Conservatory of Music in 2013. He teaches music of all levels, both choral and instrumental, at Blue Ridge Christian School. He also privately tutors students in piano, music theory, improvisation, and composition. One of his passions is seeing the energy and originality in children manifest itself through the skillful creation of music - whether wild and wacky, symmetrical and serene, or anywhere in between! He believes that creative arts are more necessary in today's instant-gratification culture of consumers than ever before, and is excited to spark a fire of lifelong creativity and musical enjoyment in those he teaches this summer.
